Hip Hop Culture Celebration
A two-day event in Riverside, California—Califest ’08 Hip Hop Theatre, is set to begin on April 30th and May 1st. Califest, presented by UC Riverside Department of Theatre, is an annual event designed to promote and celebrate hip-hop culture in America. The event will feature performances in music, poetry, dance, theatre, and spoken word.
What began as a one-day workshop and performance has now evolved into a two-day event where performers use hip-hop as a foundation for integrating traditional stage performances. Rickerby Hinds, a Honduran immigrant who relocated to Los Angeles at the age of thirteen, is UCR’s assistant of playwriting and is the creator and producer of Califest’s annual hip-hop celebration.
